Cross Bones Spotting

Friday, February 1st, 2008

It’s here! The Cross Bones arrived this morning. We’ve got some minor trickery planned for it. But, it’s beautiful as it sits. And, it’s ready for viewing. Come down this weekend and take a peak. Whoever buys this one (yes, it’s available) will want to bring their camera and take a picture of it in the crate on our sales floor. As an aside, it was an engineering project getting it in the store in the crate. And, you guessed it, there were more chiefs than indians. I suppose that’s no longer politically correct. But, you get the point. Come see this bike. It looks great.

Build a Custom Seat

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Harley launched a new custom seat program for Softails. It’s online. You design your seat and then we order it for you. Could this be a hint of what’s to come on the custom front? If so, it’s all long overdue. This is a cool tool. Check it out here. Better yet, check it out, build a custom seat, and we’ll order it for you!

Rocker On Speed!

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

TV, that is. TODAY! The Rocker will be featured in a 30-minute show that airs today on SpeedTV. The show features Willie G and Bill Davidson and some other sorted characters. Carey Hart, the freestyle motorcross rider, makes a cameo and gives his impression of the Rocker. I’m betting he likes it. Hope I didn’t spoil that for you. (I hate it when someone tells me how the movie ends.)

Show time: Tuesday, 1/29, 5:30p. Come by Santa Cruz H-D, we’ll have it blasting on our TVs.

Can’t make it by this afternoon. Here are a few other times the segment will air:

Harley Launches the Cross Bones

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I haven’t been this excited about a new bike from Harley since …well I don’t know when. Maybe the Road King. The 2008 Cross Bones has great bones. It’s bad ass straight out of the box. We’re already plotting our mods to make it SC bad ass. With our first one slated to arrive next week or the week after, it’s time to get excited about this bike. There are a couple of videos from Harley worth watching. Harley’s push is into a new market. It more than time that we start getting some fresh blood on Harleys. If Harley doesn’t, Honda will. And, so the story goes. The new marketing campaign is called Dark Custom and I for one love the direction. I see Harley finally getting with the program. Check out the Dark Custom launch in this video. Then, it’s kinda fun to watch the old guard, Willie G, together with the new street punk scene, so check out the Cross Bones launch at the infamous LA Viper Room. The link to the Viper Room videos is under the video box on the right. Last but not least, take a 360 degree spin on the Cross Bones on Harley’s web site. This bike is the “shit.”

Springsteen to Headline 10.5 Anniversary

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Bruce Springsteen I’ve been talking about the 10.5 anniversary a lot lately. Well, to anyone who will listen. So, my secret mole inside tells me: book your room, pick your bike, route your ride, because you aren’t going to want to miss the headliner. I’m like, “I’ve seen enough of Kid Rock to last me through my kid’s college.” They’re like, “Trust me, we ain’t stoppin’ with Kid Rock here.” (Lingo courtesy of high-school-lingo-for-dummies.com.) So, I do it. He was right. I’m stoked. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will headline the celebration week festivities. Best of all - only for 10.5 anniversary ticket holders. That’s right, an exclusive concert for us. So, if you don’t have your tickets, now is the time to pony up and make the commitment.

Some of the other bands for the weekend: Kid Rock (of course), ZZ Top, The Black Crowes (white ones were booked), Los Lonely Boys, Blue Oyster Cult, Joan Jett, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and the list goes on.

Rockin’ Rocker is in Santa Cruz

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Rocker UncratingThat’s right and worth the wait. We just received and uncrated our first (and only for a while) Rocker C. So, if you want to see one, you better hurry down to Santa Cruz. 240 rear tire, 37.5 degree raked out front end, and the new Rockertail rear suspension - this bike rocks! You’d think I could come up with better than that, but I’m working on a tight editorial deadline here. Harley nailed this one. The bike looks great. The rear seat is trick. So, I’m going to point you back to YouTube to see that Inspiration factory commercial. Between the video and these pictures, I’m hopin’ you come in and check this bike out this weekend. Did I mention it looks great in black? Update: Berto had the Rocker out this morning for the setup test ride. His tally: 3 stares (that he saw), 1 near crash from someone staring at the bike, and one proposition. We’ll let you know about the latter as it develops.

Last Chance for FREE Money!

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

$100 here, a hundred there. I love talking about FREE money. A big thanks to H-D for making that possible. It’s the Elbow Grease promotion. Great name - what does it mean? Simply put, Harley is giving you $100 free labor against the installation of lots of stuff. Good stuff this time. Not the “slow movers.” Paint, chrome front end kits, handlebars, wheels, Screamin’ Eagle Street Legal Performance kits, and a bunch of other items. There are some terms & conditions but nothing that would stop you from taking advantage of free money. BTW - this can be combined with the coupon below. More FREE money!

Where Is The Golden Gopher, Anyway?

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

The Golden Gopher. This seems like a place worth visiting. To see what I mean, you need to watch this new, dealer commercial from Harley-Davidson. The 30 second spot is aptly named: Inspiration. After I watched it a couple of times, it occurred to me those tricky folks in Milwaukee want to introduce one of the neat features of the new Softail Rocker™. Wow! At first, I thought it was an ad for the Golden Gopher. I still want to find that place. If you know where it is, drop me an email and fill me in. In the meantime, enjoy this feature-laden commercial for the new Softail Rocker™.

Free Money

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

$100 here, a hundred there. Pretty soon it starts to add up. Ok, more on that later. First, as promised in the last Typo - my picks for bike accessories. There are so many cool picks, where do I start.

If you don’t have the Reduced Effort Clutch, you’re just putting out too much effort to ride. “This may be the best $250 you’ve spent on your bike.” If I have to explain…. Just ask Julian, Dan or Jimmy. And, this might be the best time to get your bike in and get it done - read further; there’s a coupon that knocks that cost down a bit. Click to link to the touring, Softail, and Dyna RECs (Ok, I know, I hate acronyms too. I just did it for the corporate-types reading this).

With the current weather, you’re probably appreciating a little heat off the engine. Come Spring, sitting at the stop light on an FL can get a bit toasty. Harley’s got the answer - Air Deflectors. I would have expected them to call it an “Advanced Heat Management System.” But, you know there is a reason they call a crash guard, an engine guard. But, I digress. Customers said that the aftermarket versions of these (which came out first) really worked. I was skeptical, so I put a pair of the Harley ones (much better fit/much better looking) on my bike. Big improvement. And, they come in a black composite material (not smoked), so your eye really doesn’t read them. This is one of those “must haves” on my list.

If your running around on anything other than a fairing bike, I’m guessing there are times when you have XM-envy. I sure did. Not any more. I don’t listen to it all the time, but when I do - it’s so nice to have commercial free music that’s CD quality sound. I’m talking about the handlebar mount XM receiver from Harley. It’s a good size. You can read the display. And, you can punch the buttons with gloves on. It’s really well thought out. It’s on my bike and I love it. No speakers. I just use a set of headphones installed in my helmet. The headphones are made for Harley by Koss - great sound.

One more item. How about that new Isolated Drive System on the sprocket for 2008? Right. You want it. Even though you might have a bit of trouble describing what it does. Well, once again, that’s why Dan, Julian & Jimmy get the big bucks. Me, I just call it my “Cush Drive.” Good chance if you don’t have it, there is a kit that will fit your bike.

Back to the $100.

So, to wrap this. The Elbow Grease bucks are available for a couple of my favorites: the handlebar mount XM and the Isolated Drive System kits.

Milwaukee H-D Museum Takes Shape

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Are you the kind of person that paints a wall and then watches it dry? If so, you’re my kinda painter! You’ve gotta appreciate good work, right? Ok, I’m getting off track. If you like watching paint dry - you’ll love this site. This is the web cam that let’s us watch real time the progress of the Harley-Davidson Museum. I link to the web cam site every couple of weeks - just to see what’s happening. I’ve been checking it out since Summer. Back then, it was just kinda that mid-western grey everyday. Now, I tune in just to see the weather change. Today - a light dusting of snow with beautiful blue sky. The web cam says it’s 15°F. So, I’m thinking not a great riding day (unless you have the heated gear - including the pant liners). Aside from the weather, it really is interesting to see the museum take shape. It’s certainly a different perspective than just the promo illustrations. Tune in. I bet you’ll bookmark it and head back - just don’t get too caught up in the drama of it!
